TUESDAY GIRLS BASKETBALL: Eagles win home finale

Waseca 19-21 = 40
Windom 39-35 = 74

A steady surge in the first half allowed the Windom Eagles to break their game open Tuesday, eventually claiming a 74-40 win over Waseca in the Eagles’ regular-season home finale.

Waseca tried to slow the game down, hitting a shot to make the score 9-8 almost halfway through the first half. But the Eagles caught fire from the outside and were able to force the Bluejays into turnovers. Windom ended the half with a 30-11 run, taking a 20-point halftime lead.

The hot shooting continued for the Eagles in the second half, as Windom shot 50% from the field for the game, compared to 24% for the Bluejays. The Eagles added 12 made three-pointers in the game.

Haidyn Sammons paced the Eagles with 23 points, adding five assists and five steals. Anja Nielsen hit six three-pointers and finished with 22 points. Hadley Sammons added 14 points and six assists.

MLAC 21-10 = 31
Nicollet 44-32 = 76

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey fell behind early and couldn’t get its offense moving Tuesday, as the Wolverines dropped a 76-31 decision at Nicollet.

The Wolverines trailed 44-21 at halftime, as Nicollet used a balanced offensive attack to race to the lead. The Raiders then held the Wolverine offense completely in check in the second half, outscoring MLAC 32-10 over the final 18 minutes.

Ashlyn Pfeiffer led the Wolverines with nine points. Nadia Phommachan added six points in the loss.
