The Windom girls basketball team overcame a slow start before revving up the defense Friday, surging to a 79-36 win at Luverne.
The Eagles held a slim 21-18 lead late in the first half, but closed the half with a 19-3 burst.
The Eagles then continued to turn defense into offense in the second half, forcing 34 Cardinal turnovers and scoring 39 points off those miscues.
The Eagles also held a 12-2 scoring edge from the free throw line and outscored Luverne 27-6 from three-point range.
Haidyn Sammons and Anja Nielsen each scored 18 points in the win. Hadley Sammons added 17 points and Hannah Dauer added 13 points in the win.

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey surged into the lead late in the first half, then started the second half strong Friday to claim a 49-30 win over Red Rock Central at Lamberton.
The Wolverines ended the first half with an 8-2 run to take a 10-point lead. MLAC then started the second half with a 14-0 run to take command of the game.
Julia Brinkman led the Wolverines with 22 points in the win. Gracie Peters added 10 points.
Kendra Schroeder, Kysha Wani and Brailynn Olson each scored nine points for the Falcons.
