Windom 60-49 = 109
Luverne 37-70 = 107
In one of the wildest games in program history, the Windom Eagle boys basketball team saw a commanding lead slip away, then overcame a late deficit to claim a 109-107 victory Friday at Luverne.
The Eagles dominated the opening half, starting with an 8-0 run and pulling away with an 11-2 run to take a 60-37 halftime lead.
But in the second half, Luverne’s defense sparked a massive comeback, as the Cardinals erased the 23-point halftime deficit. Luverne took its only lead of the game with a pair of free throws, making the score 96-95.
But Windom answered with a three-pointer from Jackson Joyce to regain the lead, then held the lead the rest of the way. A lay-up from Joyce gave the Eagles a 100-96 lead. Job Ogeka then scored eight straight points for the Eagles on six free throws and a driving lay-up. A free throw from Carter Rossow gave the Eagles a five-point lead late before Luverne hit a three-pointer at the buzzer.
Six Eagles scored in double figures in the game, led by Elliot Serreyn with 24 points. Charles Erickson scored 23. Ogeka and Quintin Tietz each scored 17, Joyce added 16 and Rossow finished with 10.
