The Windom Area girls hockey team saw its season come to an end Thursday with a 6-2 loss to Fairmont in the Section 3A playoffs at Fairmont.
The Eagles fell behind 3-1 after the opening period. The Eagles were able to pull to within 3-2, but Fairmont scored three unanswered goals to seal the win.
Trailing 2-0 in the opening period, the Eagles got on the board with a power play goal from Reagan Haugen, assisted by Lyvia McManigle. But Fairmont scored a power play goal late in the period to take a 3-1 lead.
Halfway through the second, the Eagles trimmed the deficit to 3-2 on an unassisted goal from Brekkyn Rossow. But 21 seconds later, the Cardinals scored for a 4-2 lead. Fairmont then added a pair of goals early in the third period to ice the victory.
Fairmont outshot the Eagles 32-24 in the game. Goalie Fiona Robillard finished with 26 saves.
