Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey couldn’t overcome a rough shooting performance or a last-minute three-pointer Thursday night, as Madelia claimed a 53-48 victory over the Wolverines at Comfrey.
The Wolverines struggled from the field throughout, particularly from three-point range. MLAC hit just one three-pointer in the game, coming at the halftime buzzer to tie the game at 24.
MLAC was able to keep things tight for much of the second half, but a three-pointer from Katherine DeVlaeminck in the final minute gave Madelia a three-point lead and two free throws in the closing seconds sealed the win for the Blackhawks.
Julia Brinkman led the Wolverines with 16 points. Ashlyn Pfeiffer added 12 points in the loss.
