The music of the 1970s Swedish group ABBA comes to the Windom Area High School Lecture Hall Theater stage Thursday through Saturday as the local drama department presents the hit musical “Mamma Mia!”
The show will be presented each evening at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and available at the Community Education office in the Highland building or by ordering online at the school’s website.
The show brings together a collection of ABBA’s greatest hits in a two-hour production that is filled with great music, choreography, drama and plenty of humor. Sophie (junior Natalie Hodgins) is about to be married and she wants her dad to walk her down the aisle. However, she doesn’t know who her dad is and her mom, Donna (senior Harriet Lohse), who runs a taverna on a fictitious island, has never told her.
Sophie finds Donna’s diary and discovers three men who could fit the bill. Unbeknownst to Donna, Sophie invites all three to her wedding, hoping to discover her father.
The plot has a variety of twists and turns mixed with the great music from the ’70s and ’80s.
This is the first time WAHS has staged this musical, which first appeared on Broadway almost 25 years ago.
