The Windom Area boys hockey team saw an early lead slip away, but scored with 3:54 left in regulation to claim a 3-2 victory over Fairmont Saturday at Windom.
The Eagles jumped to an early 2-0 lead. At the 3:08 mark of the opening period, a puck handling mistake by the Fairmont goalie allowed Nick Espenson to steal the puck and score a shorthanded goal into an empty net for a 1-0 lead.
Then, with 2:57 left in the opening period, Espenson took a feed from Andrei Rivera and scored a power play goal for a 2-0 lead.
Fairmont battled back, scoring in the second period, then tying the game at the 8:48 mark of the third.
But with 3:54 left in regulation, Andrei Rivera redirected a rebound into the Fairmont net for the game-winning goal, assisted by Espenson and Jonah Lohse.
Goalie Kole Espenson finished with 22 saves in the win.
