Windom Area High School students were in a festive mood Tuesday morning as they kicked off Winterfest Week by crowning the event’s king and queen during a “Happy Birthday!” coronation.
Playing on the birthday theme, candidates popped a balloon with the winning balloons showering the king and queen in gold confetti; the rest of the court in rainbow confetti.
Showered in gold were Morgan Johnson, the daughter of Jeremy and Jodi Johnson, and Spencer Kleven, the son of Paul and Kelly Kleven.
The rest of the court included queen candidates Adela Lopez Lopez, Lyvia McManigle and Perla Mendoza; and king candidates Denis Hernandez, Alex Melendez Gomez and Braeden Moerke. Alivia Letcher and Leah Smith served as emcees.
In addition to crowning the king and queen, candidates played a blindfolded, marching in place game and also had to guess the candidates by their baby photos.
The first-hour event at the school, concluded with a pep fest, which included a game of musical chairs involving a handful of random students as well as introduction of senior athletic team captains.
Winterfest Week continues with the following dress-up days: Wednesday, BBQ Dad and Soccer Mom; Thursday, Decades Day; and Friday, Eagle Spirit.
