Mt. Lake native recalls career with WCCO, CBS

Quent Neufeld grew up in Mt. Lake, began a radio career in Sioux Falls and retired from television in Los Angeles.

His newly published book, “My Life in Broadcasting: Growing up in Minnesota,” recounts both personal stories and world history. Spanning the years from his birth in 1939 to 2024 when the book was published, the text is easy to read and interesting, at times nostalgic and humorous.

The first third recounts his steep learning curve in broadcasting, ending with a Walter Mondale Rally and the sale of WCCO in 1977. The middle section, chronicling his travels as a CBS producer, contains several approximately 100-word time capsules such as “The Calgary Olympics” and “The Arctic Ocean.”
