Bail reduction denied in murder case

A request to reduce the bail of a suspect facing second-degree murder charges in Cottonwood County has been denied.

At a hearing on Tuesday, attorney Stephanie Skoro of Sieben, Edmunds and Miller requested a reduction of bail for her client, 26-year-old No Name Given Happy, of San Diego, Calif.

Happy is being held at Cottonwood County jail on multiple charges, including second-degree murder, following a stabbing on New Year’s Eve at the Phat Pheasant Pub, resulting in the death of 30-year-old Benjamin Matter of Windom. Two other individuals sustained non-fatal stab wounds.

Happy’s bail was initially set at a $750,000 bond or $1 million without conditions.

The request for a reduction of bail was opposed by Cottonwood County Attorney Deja Weber and was denied by the judge.

Happy’s next court appearance will be for an omnibus hearing on Jan. 31 at 3:15 p.m.
