Sharmelyn Lou Anderson passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Urbana Senior Living in Brooklyn Park, MN, at the age of 95.
Sharmelyn was born November 1, 1929, in International Falls, MN, to Dolphin and Vernice Severson and was the eldest of three children. She grew up in International Falls and graduated from International Falls High School in 1947.
Sharmelyn married Douglas Anderson on August 21, 1954, at the Mission Covenant Church in International Falls. This marriage was blessed with four children: Douglas Jr., Janet, Judith, and Susan.
The Anderson’s moved to Coon Rapids, IA, in 1969 and then to Mt. Lake, MN, in 1976. Sharmelyn moved to Brooklyn Park, MN, in 2019 to be closer to her daughters.
A longtime member of Bethel Mennonite Church, Mountain Lake, MN, Sharmelyn was active in the Worship and Sew Fellowship making quilts that were sent around the world to people in need. She was also a longtime member of P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter J, Windom, MN.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Sharmelyn is survived by son, Douglas (Melanie) Anderson, Jr., Kissimmee, FL; daughters: Janet (Steve) Treat, Maple Grove, MN; Judith (Wayne) Hatting, Chanhassen, MN; and Susan (Mike) Bastyr, Shoreview, MN; grandchildren: Christopher (Ania), Ryan (SoYoung) and Nathaniel (Nicole) Anderson, Nicholas and Tyler (Maria) Treat, Kristin (Nico Russo) Hatting, Samuel (Jessica) Bastyr; great grandchildren: Lauren Anderson, Gabriel and Konrad Anderson, Ana Treat, and Cameron Bastyr; brother Virgil Severson and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by Douglas, her beloved husband of 58 years; parents Dolphin and Vernice Severson; sister Virginia Delahay and grandson Matthew Charles Anderson.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date and Sharmelyn will be interred at Fort Snelling National Cemetery alongside her husband.
