Entering Saturday’s third-place game of the Morris-Benson Area Holiday Tournament, the Windom Area girls hockey team had a renewed sense of confidence.
After an improved performance in Friday’s opening loss to Mankato West, the Eagles turned in another strong offensive showing Saturday, this time against the tournament hosts.
Windom Area held an 18-2 edge in shots on goal after one period, with the offensive pressure helping the Eagles find the net six times in a 6-1 win at Morris.
The offensive pressure came early for the Eagles, as Brekkyn Rossow put Windom Area on the board, redirecting a shot from Addison Schumacher for a 1-0 lead.
Later in the opening period, Ashlyn Koch picked off a clearing attempt and fired a shot past the Storm goalie for a 2-0 lead.
The Eagles padded the lead early in the second, as Mataya Hall took a drop pass from Ella Dockter and rifled home a shot for a 3-0 lead.
In the third period, the Eagles added to the lead on the power play, as Hall ripped a blue line bomb. Reagan Haugen and Dockter added goals for a 6-0 Eagle lead before the Storm scored the final goal of the game.
Windom Area outshot the Storm 33-17 in the win. Fiona Robillard finished with 16 saves.
Mankato West 1-1-3 = 5

The opening game of the Morris-Benson Area Holiday Tournament saw the Eagles get a rematch against a Mankato West team it had lost to earlier in the year.
Friday, an improved offensive effort kept the Eagles in the game against the Scarlets early, but three third-period goals sealed a 5-1 win for the Scarlets.
Trailing 1-0 in the second period, the Eagles tied the game. Lyvia McManigle took a pass from Ashlyn Koch and flipped a shot through the defense into the net.
West outshot the Eagles 31-29 for the game. Fiona Robillard finished with 26 saves in the loss.
