The Windom Area boys hockey team couldn’t sustain its momentum after tying the game Thursday, as Bloomington Kennedy surged for a 6-3 victory in the opening game of the Windom Area Holiday Tournament.
Kennedy jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the opening period, but Windom Area battled back, as Andrei Rivera scooped up a loose puck behind the net and stuffed it home for a power play goal.
Windom Area then tied the game at 2-2 early in the second period, when Keaton LaCanne fired a bouncing puck from the blue line that hopped over the blocker of the Kennedy goalie into the net.
But just 16 seconds later, Kennedy’s Mason Biermaier gave his team the lead. Kennedy added two more goals in the second period, with the last goal by Tony Perkins beating the buzzer and the Windom Area goalie for a 5-2 lead.
Jonah Lohse scored 38 seconds into the third period, cutting the deficit to 5-3, but Windom Area got no closer.
Kennedy outshot Windom Area 32-27 for the game. Goalie Keagan Koster finished with 26 saves in the loss.
