County board OKs levy hike

Cottonwood County will see a 6% increase in its tax levy for 2025.

At Tuesday’s meeting, Cottonwood County Commissioners set the levy for 2025 at $13,570,703, which constitutes a 6% increase from the 2024 levy.

The final levy approved was the same as the preliminary levy that was approved in September. By law, the county is not allowed to approve a final levy that is higher than the preliminary levy.

The board also acted to give itself a small salary increase, with the annual salary for a commissioner increasing from $23,000 in 2024 to $23,750 in 2025.

The board also approved an additional $1,200 in salary for the board chair, which is the same as 2024. Also the same as 2024 are the $60 monthly technology stipend and $100 per diems.

More from Tuesday’s meeting appears in the Dec. 18 print and e-editions of the Citizen.
