A dominant defensive performance set the tone for the Windom girls basketball team Saturday afternoon, as the Eagles rolled to a 77-26 victory over Worthington at the Minnesota West Thanksgiving Shootout in Worthington.
The Eagles held the Trojans to two field goals in the opening half, racing to a 25-0 lead to start the game. Windom forced 36 Trojan turnovers in the game, with many coming in the first half, setting up fast-break baskets as the Eagles took a 48-15 halftime lead.
Late in the first half, the Eagles’ outside shooting came to life, as the Eagles hit 10 three-pointers in the contest.
The defensive performance continued in the second half, as the Eagles held the Trojans to 11% shooting for the game.
Anja Nielsen paced the Eagles with 25 points. Haidyn Sammons scored 18 and Hadley Sammons added 13 points. She also became the first Eagle to surpass 500 career assists and became the Eagles’ career leader in steals in the win.
Springfield 29-42 = 71
RRC 14-10 = 24
Springfield erupted on offense in the second half Saturday night, pulling away for a 71-24 victory over the Red Rock Central girls basketball team at Lamberton.
The Tigers held a comfortable 15-point halftime lead, then outscored the Falcons 42-10 in the second half.
Springfield held the Falcons to eight field goals in the game, with RRC struggling with turnovers for the third straight game.
Tia Donkersloot led RRC with seven points. Paige Wondercheck finished with six points.
