A crosswalk in Mt. Lake that is used frequently by kids will be getting a little extra safety boost.
At Tuesday’s meeting, Cottonwood County Commissioners approved a request to enter a cost-sharing agreement with the city of Mt. Lake to purchase and install a rectangular rapid-flashing beacon sign.
The specific area for the sign will be a crosswalk across County Road 1 that leads to the Munson Field athletic complex.
The signs have LED lights that are solar-powered, that are activated by a button that is pushed when someone is crossing the crosswalk.
The sign has an estimated cost of $10,615 plus installation. The cost would be split evenly between the county and the city, with the city being in charge of ongoing maintenance.
