A Windom man was killed and a woman sustained life-threatening injuries following a two-vehicle crash at the south junction of Highways 60 and 71 Thursday evening.
According to the State Patrol, at roughly 6:35 p.m. Thursday, a 2016 Ford, driven by 76-year-old Terry Fredin of Windom, was southbound on Cindy Street, crossing Highway 60 at the intersection, when it was struck by a 2007 Peterbilt semi, driven by 30-year-old Eric Murcia of Springfield.
Fredin sustained fatal injuries in the accident.
His passenger, 78-year-old Karen Fredin of Windom, was transported to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls with life-threatening injuries.
Murcia and his passenger, 27-year-old Baylee Barsalou of North Sioux City, S.D., were not injured in the crash.
The State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Windom Police, Fire and Ambulance departments, as well as the Cottonwood and Jackson county sheriff’s departments.
