After nearly two weeks since its last regular season match, the Windom Eagle volleyball team looked for a fast start to the Section 3AA playoffs Friday against St. James.
Behind pinpoint serving early and a strong net performance over the final two sets, the Eagles got exactly the start they wanted, rolling to a 3-0 sweep over St. James at Windom.
The match started in remarkable fashion for the Eagles, as Windom senior Charlee Huska’s serving kept the Saints scrambling. The Eagles jumped to a 21-0 lead in the opening set before St. James scored a point, and Windom was able to close out a 25-2 opening-set win.
The Eagle offense got into the act more in set two, as powerful attacks from Hannah Dauer, Kenzi Meyeraan and Adison Hogan helped the Eagles to a 25-17 win.
Then, in the final set, a flurry of ace serves from Ali Lund staked the Eagles to a commanding lead, as Windom went on to a 25-11 win.
Huska finished the match 33-of-33 serving with four aces. Lund went 15-of-17 with five aces.
Meyeraan led the Eagles with eight kills. Dauer had six kills and four solo blocks and Hogan finished with five kills.
Huska tallied 15 set assists. Addison Colbert had 10 digs.

RTR 25-25-25 = 3
Top-seeded Russell-Tyler-Ruthton had to battle Friday night, but the Knights eventually overcame Red Rock Central to earn a 3-0 sweep in the Section 3A playoffs at Tyler.
RTR raced to an early lead in the opening set, but RRC was able to battle back, keeping things tight throughout set two. RTR then pulled away late in the third set to seal the win.
Natasha Erickson was 9-of-9 serving for the Falcons in the loss. Tia Donkersloot had a team-high 10 kills and four blocks. Erickson finished with 21 set assists. Maia Scheffler and Ally Linder had nine digs each.
