Section 3A Meet
Windom will have one representative at the Class A State Cross Country Meet, which will be held Nov. 2 at the University of Minnesota’s Les Bolstad Golf Course.
Sophomore Bryce Green advanced to state after an eighth-place finish at Thursday’s Section 3A Meet, held at Luverne.
Green finished with a time of 16:53.20 and was the second of six individual state qualifiers who weren’t on the two state qualifying teams.
The Eagle boys finished sixth in the team standings with 158 points. Redwood Valley (34) and Luverne (47) advanced to state as teams.
Meanwhile, the Eagle girls finished 12th in the team standings with 296 points. Redwood Valley (37) and Canby-Minneota (72) advanced as teams.
For the boys race, Green was in the midst of a large pack at the start of the race before four lead runners separated from the field.
Green settled in well, keeping a smooth pace throughout the race. As the final stretch approached, Green was able to charge up the final hill and outkick a pair of other runners over the final 200 meters to the finish line.
Braylen Lyons added a 20th-place finish (17:28), followed by Isaac Bordewyk in 37th (18:39), Caelen Ralston in 44th (18:57) and Nolan Tjentland in 51st (19:25).
For the girls, Windom’s runners tried to work their way up in the field after starting further back in the pack.
Macie Carlson was able to maneuver her way into the top quarter of the field, finishing with a surge to place 26th overall with a time of 21:42.49.
Jesselle Sosa placed 68th (23:54), followed by Gretta Smith in 71st (24:01), Jocelyn Frank in 78th (24:15) and Penelope Roberts in 85th (24:24).
