Section 2A Meet
For the second straight year, Mt. Lake Area will have both its girls and boys teams heading to the University of Minnesota’s Les Bolstad Golf Course for the Class A State Cross Country Meet.
The Wolverine teams each finished as section runners-up at Thursday’s Section 2A Meet, held at Norwood-Young America’s Baylor Park.
The MLA girls finished second in the team standings with 102 points. Mankato Loyola/Cleveland/St. Clair won the section title with 76 points.
The Wolverine boys also earned section runners-up with 83 points. Loyola/Cleveland/St. Clair won the meet with 48 points.
The Wolverine girls were paced by Katie Johnson, who ran a career-best time of 19:52 to capture sixth place, individually.
Julia Brinkman added a 17th-place finish (21:32), followed by Emily Johnson in 24th (21:51), Hannah Beyer in 31st (22:18) and Hannah Savage in 32nd (22:23).
The Wolverine boys had a stellar day, with six of the team’s seven runners posting career-best times.
Cooper Evers led the way, finishing with a time of 16:55 to capture third place, individually. Joseph Torres placed 12th (17:36), followed by Ethan Schroeder in 13th (17:38), Rolando Tema Tema in 28th (18:11) and Landon Strom in 31st (18:19).
MCWBO
Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin finished 12th in the girls standings with 259 points and 16th in the boys standings with 431 points.
MCWBO will have one individual participant in the state cross country meet. Evelynn Christenson placed seventh in the girls race with a time of 20:14. Katelynn Kennedy was 42nd (23:14), followed by Maddison Lyon in 62nd (24:26), Reese Peters in 81st (26:28) and Paige Hartwig in 84th (26:47).
The MCWBO boys were led by Brody Cook, who placed 70th with a time of 20:18. Marek Mulder was 78th (20:26), followed by Hayden O’Connor in 91st (21:15), Kaleb Kennedy in 96th (21:39) and Conrad Gwin in 104th (23:09).
