It’s been three months since 3 to 4 feet of water covered the Island Park baseball/football field for more than two weeks following Windom’s most devastating flood ever.
Nevertheless, grass once again is growing and covering the infield and outfield of the ballpark. Obviously, it didn’t happen overnight, but it has taken off in the last month, so much so, that the ballpark’s caretaker, Mike Jackson, says the grass isn’t far away from its first of what he hopes will be two or three mowings before cold weather sets in.
But like grass growth, restoring the ballpark to its former glory also didn’t happen in short order. A dedicated crew of volunteers, Jackson included, spent hundreds of man hours to bring “green” back to Island Park.
