A history-making season for the St. James/Windom/Madelia boys soccer team had a little more history added Monday night in St. James.
The Wings hosted a playoff game for the first time in program history. And, for the second time in three days, the Wings came away with a dominant victory over Mankato Loyola, defeating the Crusaders 8-1.
The Wings jumped out to a fast start, scoring in the opening two minutes of the game and netting three goals in the first 10 minutes.
The Wings were able to stretch the lead to 5-0 late in the opening half before Loyola was able to sneak past the defense, cutting the deficit to 5-1 at halftime.
In the second half, the Wings were able to continue the attack. A penalty kick early in the half pushed the lead to 6-1. The Wings added a goal near the midpoint of the second half and tacked on an insurance goal in the closing minutes.
Herson Perez netted a trio of goals for the Wings in the win. Edwin Amperez added two goals, while Rodrigo Hernandez, Freddy Barrios and Alejandro Aguirre each netted single goals.
Alex Gomez and Andrei Rivera split time in goal for the Wings.
