The Windom Eagles improved to 4-2 on the season Saturday afternoon with a commanding performance on both sides of the ball, leading to a 48-20 victory at Wabasso.
The fireworks began early for the Eagles, who marched 75 yards in nine plays on their opening drive, capped with a 6-yard touchdown pass from Charlie Erickson to Lane Caldwell. The extra point kick gave the Eagles a 7-0 lead.
After forcing a three-and-out, the Eagles went deep, as Erickson hit Kevin Bleess with a 35-yard scoring strike for a 14-0 lead.
The Eagles scored on their next drive after shutting down Wabasso on fourth down. A pair of passes to Bleess set up a 9-yard touchdown run from Stevie Meyer for a 21-0 lead.
The Eagles forced another three-and-out, with Caldwell blocking the Rabbit punt. Two plays later, Meyer scored on a 4-yard run for a 28-0 Eagle lead.
Wabasso found life late in the first half. A long kickoff return set up a 5-yard touchdown run. Then, an Eagle interception and a long return set up a 1-yard touchdown run, cutting the Eagle lead to 28-12.
Windom tried to move quickly into scoring range to end the half, but a 39-yard field goal attempt as time expired was blocked.
However, the Eagles regained momentum immediately in the second half, as Bleess returned the opening kickoff 76 yards for a touchdown and a 35-12 lead.
After a pair of three-and-outs by the Rabbits, the Eagles needed just three plays to find the end zone, as Erickson hit Meyer on a 24-yard screen pass for a 42-12 lead.
After another Rabbit punt, the Eagles converted on a 12-play, 61-yard drive, capped when Erickson hit Joe Walinga for a 12-yard score.
Wabasso added a late touchdown run to cap the scoring.
Meyer led the Eagles on the ground with 85 yards rushing on 17 carries.
Erickson completed 18-of-23 passes for 239 yards. Bleess had four catches for 78 yards while Walinga had six catches for 71 yards.

Mt. Lake Area scored on the first play from scrimmage and never looked back Friday, rolling to a 52-0 homecoming win over Madelia in Mt. Lake.
MLA struck paydirt on the game’s first snap, as Evan Karschnik raced for a 69-yard touchdown.
The Wolverines added a 5-yard scoring run from Carsen Hopper for a 16-0 lead, then got a 26-yard touchdown pass from Jake Evers to Ethan Rahn, a 19-yard touchdown pass from Evers to Karschnik and a 2-yard touchdown run from Evers to take a 40-0 lead after one quarter.
Karschnik added scoring runs of 13 and 5 yards early in the second quarter, with the Wolverines pulling the starters early and the second half being played with a running clock.
Karschnik had 13 carries for 165 yards. Damien Aguirre rushed eight times for 45 yards.
Evers completed 4-of-6 passes for 60 yards. Rahn had two catches for 34 yards.

Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda stifled Red Rock Central’s offense Friday night, forcing five turnovers in a 19-0 shutout win at Fulda.
RRC’s best chance to score came on the game’s opening drive, as the Falcons marched inside the Coyote 10-yard line. But on third-and-goal from the 6, an interception halted the Falcons’ drive.
HLOF eventually took advantage, scoring early in the second quarter on a 35-yard touchdown pass to take a 7-0 lead. Then, after a Falcon punt, the Coyotes marched 55 yards, scoring on a 12-yard pass to take a 13-0 lead into halftime.
HLOF’s defense took control in the second half, holding the Falcons to 15 offensive plays in the half. Three of those offensive snaps resulted in Coyote interceptions.
The lone scoring of the second half came from the foot of HLOF’s Bryce Nielsen, who booted a pair of 27-yard field goals to cap the scoring.
Carter Therkilsen rushed 23 times for 89 yards and had 46 yards receiving in the loss for the Falcons. Jordan Therkilsen completed 4-of-10 passes for 62 yards.
