The Windom Eagles found themselves in a similar situation as they were in two weeks ago Friday night.
The Eagles scored a touchdown with 26 seconds left on the clock on a 6-yard pass from Charlie Erickson to Hayden Tietz.
Unlike two weeks ago, when the Eagles kicked the extra point to send the game to overtime, the Eagles went for the two-point conversion, with Erickson again finding Tietz. That gave the Eagles a thrilling 28-27 homecoming victory over Russell-Tyler-Ruthton at Windom.
RTR struck first, scoring on a 5-yard touchdown run, but the Eagles answered before the end of the opening quarter when Erickson hit Tietz for a 3-yard touchdown strike. The extra point kick from Christopher Morales Parra tied the game at 7-7.
It stayed tied until late in the second quarter, when the Eagles forced a three-and-out, getting the ball back with under two minutes to play. With two seconds left in the half, Morales Parra booted a 19-yard field goal, giving the Eagles a 10-7 lead.
RTR scored with 4:35 left in the third on a 5-yard run, but the Eagles again answered, as Erickson hit Kevin Bleess with a 24-yard scoring strike. The extra point gave Windom a 17-14 lead.
RTR regained the lead at the 8:24 mark of the fourth on a 4-yard run, making the score 21-17.
The Eagles quickly moved down the field, but stalled out inside the red zone and settled for a 21-yard field goal from Morales Parra, cutting the RTR lead to 21-20.
On the ensuing drive, RTR got a long return and started from the Eagle 43, scoring six plays later on a 26-yard pass. But the Eagles forced an incomplete pass on the two-point conversion, keeping RTR’s lead at 27-20.
On Windom’s final drive, Erickson hit five different receivers, completing all seven pass attempts and adding a 20-yard run. With 26 seconds left, Erickson hit Tietz for a 6-yard touchdown. After a false start pushed the Eagles back five yards on the two-point conversion, Erickson hit Tietz in almost the identical spot for the conversion, giving the Eagles a 28-27 lead.
RTR’s last chance to drive down the field to win the game was turned aside, as Tietz picked off a pass on the Knights’ first play of its final drive, essentially ending the game.
Erickson completed 29-of-44 passes for 290 yards. Bleess had nine catches for 123 yards. Jackson Joyce had four catches for 56 yards and Tietz caught seven passes for 51 yards. Erickson also had a team-high 27 yards rushing on seven carries.

One shaky quarter doomed the Mt. Lake Area football team Saturday afternoon, as the Wolverines were on the short end of a 21-12 decision at Spring Grove.
The Lions capitalized on two Wolverine turnovers, turning both into points in the second quarter. Spring Grove got on the board on a short touchdown pass, then scored on a pair of touchdown runs to take a 21-0 lead into halftime.
The Wolverine offense found its footing in the second half, scoring on a 3-yard Evan Karschnik run. MLA then added a 9-yard touchdown pass from Jake Evers to Maxton Fast early in the fourth quarter. But both attempts at a two-point conversion failed, leaving the deficit at two scores.
Evers rushed 17 times for 65 yards in the loss. Karschnik had nine carries for 47 yards.
Evers completed 11-of-17 passes for 110 yards. Karschnik had three catches for 40 yards. Ethan Rahn had four catches for 35 yards.

Edgerton was able to churn out yardage on the ground Friday night, spoiling homecoming night for Red Rock Central with a 34-6 decision at Lamberton.
The Falcons got on the board first, scoring early in the game on a 30-yard Carter Therkilsen run.
But Edgerton answered, scoring late in the quarter on a short run. The Dutchmen added a pair of touchdown runs in the second quarter, then added scoring runs of 15 and 54 yards in the third to seal the win.
Carter Therkilsen rushed 24 times for 133 yards for RRC. Jordan Therkilsen completed 6-of-15 passes for 52 yards. Jake Erickson had three catches for 35 yards.
