The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced that its disaster recovery center, located at the North Highway 71 office building north of Windom, will permanently close on Friday.
The building will remain open until 6:30 p.m. on Friday before permanently closing.
However, FEMA also announced that it was extending the deadline to apply for individual assistance until Oct. 27.
You don’t need to visit a Disaster Recovery Center to apply for or receive FEMA assistance. To apply without visiting a center, go online to DisasterAssistance.gov, download the FEMA mobile app or call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. If you use a relay service such as video relay service, captioned telephone service or others, give FEMA your number for that service when you apply.
If you have questions about your application, you may visit a recovery center or call the FEMA Helpline. You can also submit documents for FEMA review at a center, or you can mail, fax or upload them to your DisasterAssistance.gov account. To set up a FEMA online account, visit DisasterAssistance.gov, click on “Apply Online” and follow the directions. Refer to your FEMA letter for additional details.
You can also apply online for low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration. These are available to homeowners, renters, businesses, and nonprofit organizations and can provide funds for needs not met by other recoveries such as FEMA grants or insurance settlements. Apply for these loans online at SBA.gov/disaster.
