The start to the waterfowl hunting season is Saturday across Southern Minnesota.
Hunting hours are from a half-hour before sunrise until sunset each day during the season.
The waterfowl season in the South Zone of the state runs from Saturday through Sept. 29, then reopens Oct. 5, with duck season going through Nov. 24 and goose season going through Dec. 26.
The South Zone is anywhere south of a line that includes U.S. Highway 212, Interstate 494 and the far eastern portion of Interstate 94 in the east Twin Cities metro area.
Local DNR Wildlife Manager Brian Nyborg noted that local duck and goose production was lower this year than usual.
