A late touchdown sent the game to overtime, but the Windom Eagles weren’t able to capitalize on the momentum Friday night, falling 22-16 in overtime to Murray County Central at Windom.
MCC scored on its second drive of the game, taking an 8-0 lead late in the first quarter. But the Eagles answered on their next possession, scoring on a 16-yard pass from Charlie Erickson to Hayden Tietz to cut the deficit to 8-6.
The Eagles forced the Rebels to punt before closing out the first half with a solid scoring drive. A 16-yard pass from Erickson to Jackson Joyce and a 10-yard completion to Kevin Bleess helped set up a 33-yard field goal by Alex Gomez at time expired in the opening half, giving Windom a 9-8 lead.
It stayed that way until the fourth quarter, when MCC put together a scoring drive. A 16-yard pass completion helped set up a 1-yard sneak by Krew Schneider, with the two-point conversion giving MCC a 16-9 lead with 6:51 to play.
After each team went three-and-out on its next possession, the Eagles put together a stellar two-minute drive, marching 81 yards in 10 plays. An 18-yard pass from Erickson to Stevie Meyer and pass completions of 19 and 29 yards from Erickson to Joyce set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Tietz. The extra point kick by Christopher Morales tied the score at 16-16, sending it to overtime.
Windom got the ball first in overtime. On fourth down from the 2, the Eagles were stopped short of the goal line, turning the ball over on downs.
MCC quickly moved inside the 5. On third down, MCC scored on a 4-yard run by Andrew Holm to end the game.
Erickson completed 13-of-25 passes for 170 yards. Joyce had four catches for 77 yards while Tietz had four catches for 47 yards. Meyer rushed 13 times for 18 yards.

Red Rock Central put on a ball control clinic Friday night, as the Falcons pounded their way to a 34-18 victory over New Ulm Cathedral in Lamberton.
The Falcons had two scoring drives that chewed up over seven minutes of clock in the game, building an early 20-0 lead and forcing Cathedral to try to come back through the air.
RRC got on the board in the first quarter on a 58-yard Carter Therkilsen run for an 8-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Therkilsen added scoring runs of 9 and 20 yards, giving the Falcons a 20-0 lead.
Cathedral scored late in the first half to cut the deficit to 20-6, then added a touchdown early in the third, cutting the Falcon lead to 20-12.
RRC used one of its time-consuming drives to eat up nearly eight minutes of third quarter clock, scoring on a 1-yard Jake Erickson run on the first play of the fourth quarter to take a 28-12 lead.
Cathedral returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown, but RRC was able to get the ball back and seal the game with a 19-yard run by Therkilsen.
Carter Therkilsen finished the game with 28 carries for 236 yards and four touchdowns. Erickson rushed 10 times for 36 yards and Jordan Therkilsen had 10 carries for 28 yards. Jordan Therkilsen also completed both his pass attempts for 15 yards.

Mt. Lake Area’s offense smashed its way to over 350 yards on the ground Friday night as the Wolverines rumbled to a 49-22 victory over Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman at Granada.
MLA jumped to the early lead when Jake Evers hit Maxton Fast for a 10-yard touchdown for an 8-0 lead.
The Wolverine ground game took control in the second, as Evers scored on a 48-yard run for a 16-0 lead. Ethan Rahn tacked on a 2-yard touchdown and Evan Karschnik’s 8-yard touchdown gave MLA a 29-0 lead at the half.
The Wolverine defense then stretched the lead to 43-0, as Rahn returned a fumble 32 yards for a touchdown and Layne Wall had a 37-yard pick-six.
After GHECT scored on an 81-yard run, Karschnik capped the Wolverine scoring with a 24-yard run.
GHECT returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown, then capped the scoring with a fourth-quarter touchdown.
Karschnik rushed 12 times for 150 yards in the win. Evers added 11 carries for 136 yards and completed 4-of-8 passes for 46 yards.
