The city of Windom issued a press release Tuesday that encourages community members with flood damage to apply for individual assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as soon as possible.
FEMA staff will be available in downtown Windom at Night to Unite from 5:00pm – 7:00pm tonight.
Citizens can apply in multiple ways to receive this aid. They may go online at DisasterAssistance.gov, through the FEMA app, or by phone at (800) 621-3362. Only one method of application must be completed. Through any application method, you will need to provide:
- Your address with zip code
- Condition of your damaged home
- Insurance information, if available
- Social Security number
- Phone number where you can be contacted
- Address where you can get mail or email address to receive electronic notifications
The city conveys that the FEMA staff may contact you after your application to schedule an inspection of your property. This contact may be by phone call, text, or email depending on your listed preferred contact method. They will always carry FEMA identification/badges which you may ask to view at the time of this inspection.
For community members preferring in-person support, FEMA staff expect to have a continued presence in the Windom community for the near future.
