The Windom Pirates picked up a pair of wins over the weekend, claiming a best-of-three series 2-1 over the Milroy Irish in the Region 13C amateur baseball playoffs.
Windom dropped the opening game 8-0 last Wednesday, but forced a deciding game with a thrilling 3-2 victory Saturday at the Windom Recreation Area.
In Game Three, played Sunday at Milroy, the Pirates scored eight runs in the second inning and 11 in the fifth, rolling to a 20-3 victory. In the win, Alex Fink ripped two home runs and have five RBI, while Quintin Tietz and Luke Gilbertson each hit a bases-clearing double.
The Pirates now need one more series victory to earn one of the three state qualifying positions out of Region 13C. Windom begins a best-of-three series with top-seeded Luverne on Wednesday in Luverne at 7:30 p.m. Game two is Saturday at the Windom Recreation Area at 2 p.m., while game three, if needed, is Sunday at Luverne.
In the other semifinal series, Jackson will take on Fairmont. The winners of the two series will play a best-of-three series, starting Aug. 7, to determine the top seed out of the region, while the losing teams of the semifinal series will play a best-of-three series, starting Aug. 7, to determine the third and final seed out of the region.
