While quilting tends to be a popular hobby for many people, it’s become more than that for a 1968 Windom High School graduate.
Helen Smith Stone, now a resident of Duluth, has turned her hobby into a longtime passion. The quilting community has acknowledged that passion, and she was recently recognized by Minnesota Quilters, Inc. as the 2024 Minnesota Quilter of the Year.
“I was stunned; the news brought tears to my eyes,” she said. “When the president of Minnesota Quilters Board of Directors, Wynn Martin, called and told me, I remember going silent and didn’t know what to say for a minute. It was a wonderful surprise.”
Smith Stone’s work was recently featured at The Minnesota Quilt Show, held in June.
