There will be an event, Spike Out Cancer, to raise funds and awareness in the fight against cancer, starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Tegels Park.
According to the Minnesota Department of Health, in a tally done five years ago, there are over 250,000 cancer survivors alive in the state.
“This is a night to celebrate survivors,” said organizer Mary Theesfeld, “It is so important to honor them.”
More than 35 prizes will be available and tickets will be available for $5 each for a chance to be a winner and support the cause. The drawing will take place in one corner of the shelter house and ticket holders need not be present to win.

A meal will be served in the new Lion’s Club Pavilion in the park from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and then a program with cancer survivor and caregiver recognition will be held.
There is a requested donation of $10 for the meal. Popcorn and A&W root beer floats will also be available.
Survivors join in
Survivors are asked to stop at the survivor registration area which will be set up in the corner of the shelter house closest to the kitchen/food area.
Theesfeld will be sitting there to welcome all cancer survivors and guests.
A walk including and with cancer survivors is planned to be a very special moment of this event.
