Don Hendrickson 

Don Hendrickson of Lakefield, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024, at Accura Health Care in Milford, Iowa. Don was 95.

A funeral service for Don was held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery, both of Lakefield.   

Don was born September 26, 1928, in Lakefield to John Martin and Eva Elizabeth (Norgrant) Hendrickson. He was baptized on September 9, 1934 by Rev. Elof Peterson at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lakefield with his grandparents, Andrew and Anna Norgrant as witnesses.

On June 8, 1941, Don was confirmed at Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church by Rev. Elof Peterson in Lakefield. His memory verse was – “For the Lord of Jehovah is right; and all his work is done in faithfulness.” Psalm 33:4.

Don attended District 18 country school through the 8th grade and then graduated from Lakefield High School on May 31, 1946. He remained on the farm after graduation helping his parents.

On June 19, 1948, Don joined the Army National Guard in Jackson County, MN. He was called to train for active duty on January 24, 1951, and reported to Camp Rucker in New Brockton, Alabama.

On March 3, 1951, Don married Darlene Ann Ysker at Camp Rucker where they made their first home until Don left for Korea on August 1, 1951, and served as Field Artillery Chief until April 16, 1952, when he returned to the farm in Lakefield.

Don and Darlene then lived on the farm, helping his parents, where they raised their two sons Randy and Michael. In 1971, Don rented out the land and began working in sales.

Darlene passed away in October of 1997and Don remained in their home until June of 2022 when he could no longer live alone and moved to Accura Health Care in Milford, IA.

Don has been a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield since 1946 where he served as Deacon and taught Sunday School. Don’s favorite hobbies include fishing, golfing, and traveling.

Don is survived by his son, Michael (Jean) Hendrickson of Lakefield; daughter-in-law, Donna Hendrickson of Lakefield; four grandchildren, Jason (Allison) Hendrickson, Brandon (Julie) Hendrickson, Jesse (Jen) Hendrickson all of Lakefield and Amber (Bryce) Knettle of Minnetonka, MN; seven great-grandchildren, and three step great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild; his brother, Rev. Roy Hendrickson of Albert Lea; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Preceding Don in death were his parents, wife Darlene, son Randy and friend Ruth Mickelson.
