County appoints new county attorney

After a four-month vacancy, the position of Cottonwood County Attorney is being filled.

At Tuesday’s meeting, Cottonwood County Commissioners appointed Deja Weber as the new county attorney, effective on Aug. 5.

Weber has served as Waseca County assistant county attorney since July 2022. She is a graduate of Hamline University School of Law and passed the state bar in 2004.

She will complete the term vacated by Nick Anderson, who resigned in February to take a position with the state public defender’s office in Worthington.

If Weber wishes to appear on the ballot in 2026, when the position is next up for election, she will need to be a county resident at least 90 days before the election.

More from Tuesday’s county board meeting appears in the July 3 print and e-editions of the Citizen.
