Local elected officials tour flooding in Windom

Monday afternoon, Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach, along with State Sen. Bill Weber and State Rep. Marj Fogelman, were in Windom to hear an update on flooding and to tour some of the flood-impacted areas.

Fischbach noted that the entire Minnesota legislative delegation is urging federal relief, including individual homeowner assistance, on a bipartisan basis. Over the weekend, President Joe Biden declared 22 counties in the state a federal disaster area, including Cottonwood, Murray, Nobles, Jackson and Watonwan counties.

After the update from Emergency Manager Paul Johnson, Mayor Dominic Jones took the elected officials on a tour of several flood-impacted areas, including Island Park, Cottonwood Lake and Perkins Creek. The group also saw the temporary transfer station set up at Windom Area High School.

More from Monday’s meeting and continuing coverage of the historic flooding in Windom will appear in the July 3 print and e-editions of the Citizen.
