River appears to be receding slowly

The Des Moines River in Windom appears to be receding after hitting a new record crest.

As of the last observation at the National Weather Service gauge at 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday, the level of the river in Windom was 24.83 feet. The river appeared to crest at 25.01 feet at roughly 3:25 a.m. on Tuesday.

Barring further rainfall in the area, the forecast shows the river continuing to recede, dropping below the 24-foot mark on Friday and potentially down to 22 feet by early Monday morning. However, rain is in the forecast for Thursday and Friday, which could slow the receding of the waters, or possibly cause the waters to rise again.
