Handful of roads, parks in county remain closed

Cottonwood County Public Works has announced that four county highways and two county parks remain closed, as of Wednesday morning, due to flooding.

Roads in the county that are closed include:

  • County Road 5: From State Highway 62 south to the Jackson County line, where it becomes Jackson County Road 9. Jackson County Road 9 also is closed from the county line to Heron Lake.
  • County Road 15: The bridge near the Windom Country Club is closed.
  • County Road 13: From 15th Avenue to Sixth Avenue in Windom.
  • County Road 99: From County Road 9 to 550th Avenue, northeast of Mt. Lake.

Additionally, Pat’s Grove County Park west of Windom and Mountain Park near Mt. Lake both remain closed.

Jed Rhubee from the Public Works Department added that numerous townships in the county have reported damaged township roads.

“Travel on gravel roads in the southern part of the county can be hazardous right now,” Rhubee said. “Lots of culverts have failed and there are washed-out roads and shoulders. Extreme caution should be used.”
