River back on the rise

After initially cresting on Sunday afternoon, the Des Moines River is once again on the rise Monday morning.

The river crested at 24.66 feet Sunday and receded during the day Sunday. However, according to the National Weather Service river gauge located by the Windom Country Club, the river began rising again late Sunday night.

New forecasts from the NWS predict the river’s crest to come on Wednesday at 26 feet. The record crest for the Des Moines River in Windom is 24.7 feet, which took place in 1969.

The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners will meet this morning to officially declare a state of emergency.
