The Des Moines River appears poised to surge to record levels. As a result, local government entities will officially declare a state of emergency today.
The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners will meet at 11:15 a.m. to discuss the state of emergency. Board Chair Norm Holmen issued a short-term declaration on Friday, which started the emergency declaration process. The county’s approval of a state of emergency today means the county will be in a state of emergency for 30 days and starts the process to receive state and federal disaster funding.
The Windom City Council will hold an emergency meeting at 1 p.m. today at City Hall to adopt an emergency declaration for the city.
