Tornado watch issued for much of state

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued a tornado watch until 8 p.m.

The watch covers nearly all of the state of Minnesota, with only the far northwest corner and far southeast corner of the state not included.

A tornado watch means weather conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms that could include tornadoes. Those storms also can have strong straight-line winds, dangerous lightning, large hail and heavy rainfall.

People in the watch area should be aware of threatening weather conditions, pay attention for possible warnings and be prepared to seek shelter if necessary.
