Ronald “Ben” Presthus

A Celebration of Life Visitation for Ronald “Ben” Presthus, age 54, of Lakefield, was held Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Jackson. Celebration of Life continued Monday, June 17th with a small service at the Lakefield Golf Course in Lakefield.

Ben Presthus passed away unexpectedly at his home in Lakefield, Minnesota, on June 11, 2024, at the age of 54. He had a personality larger than life and left an impact on everyone he met.

Ronald “Ben” Presthus was born December 12, 1969, to Ronald and Sandra (Haag) Presthus in San Bernadino, California. The family moved back home to Iowa in the early 70’s. Ben’s childhood was adventurous growing up. He had many stories from farm life, especially training horses and riding horses through the sale ring.

Ben attended elementary and middle school in Rolfe then graduated from high school in Pocahontas with the class of 1988. He played football, baseball and track. Between his junior and senior years, he joined the military serving with the National Guard from 1987-1989. After graduation, he transferred to the United States Army where he proudly served with the 82nd Airborne Division 7th Special Forces Group and said it was the best job ever had. He completed Ranger school and went on to obtain Jump Master status, jumping into multiple countries. He was also an Airborne Infantry Medic. He finished his military career as a Sergeant with numerous medals and achievements, including Meritorious Service Medal, Army Accommodation Medal, Kuwait Liberation Ribbon, Master Parachutist including Australian, Canadian, and Honduran Parachutist Badges. He was honorably discharged out of the Army in 1996.

Ben graduated with an Agricultural Business Degree from Iowa State University and began working at Cargill in 1998 as a Grain Marketer. In 2004, he worked for Pro Pig and in 2005 he started Red Rock Holdings with a few of his colleagues. Ben started Cyclone Grain in 2006 and enjoyed working with many of his customers. If he wasn’t working, he would be golfing or checking the crops with his buddies.

He was blessed with three boys: Ryan, Tyler, and Nicklaus. He was so proud of the men and husbands they became, blessing him with seven grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling to see his kids and grandkids wherever they were; whether it was to watch hockey or seeing them for a long weekend, family and hanging out were a priority.

He leaves behind his mother Sandra; sons, Ryan (LaCee) Presthus of Williston, ND, Tyler (Sarah) Presthus of Lakefield, MN, and Nicklaus (Emily) Presthus of Spring Creek, NV; five grandchildren, Ella, Jordyn, Nash, Taya, and Braxton; fiancé Kortney and her two girls Ella and Chloe of Lakefield; two brothers, Andy (Shanda) of Des Moines, IA and Josh (Michelle) of Elizabethtown, KY; sister, Jeanie (Mark) of Plover; and many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Ron; brother Chris; and two grandsons, Stetson and James.

A full life that ended too soon. Blessed be the memory of Ben Presthus.

Arrangements are under the care of the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Jackson. Condolences and memories of Ben may be sent online to www.lacannefuneralhome.com.
