SECTION BASEBALL: Lakers end Eagles’ season

Minnewaska 025 010 4 = 12-13-0
Windom 000 000 0 = 0-6-2

The Windom baseball team couldn’t find the gaps in the defense Wednesday afternoon, as the Eagles fell 12-0 to Minnewaska in the Section 3AA playoffs at Marshall.

The loss ended the Eagles’ season with an 18-7 overall record.

Windom’s offense hit the ball well much of the day, but Minnewaska’s defense was able to prevent the Eagles from mounting major rallies.

Meanwhile, the Lakers got on the board with two runs in the top of the second, then tacked on five runs in the third, with the big blow being a two-run home run.

The Eagles had a good chance to score in the bottom of the second, putting runners at second and third with two outs before a groundout ended the threat.

Windom was able to move a runner to third after a leadoff double in the fourth, but left two runners on base.

The Eagles’ best chance to score came in the sixth, when the Eagles loaded the bases with two outs before a deep fly ball to right-center field ended the inning.

The Lakers tacked on a single run in the fifth and four runs in the seventh to seal the win.

Adam Perrizo had two hits in the loss.

Jackson Joyce took the pitching loss, working the first 2-⅓ innings.
