SECTION BASEBALL: Eagles earn walk-off win

NLS 001 000 1 = 2-5-1
Windom 000 011 1 = 3-4-1

The Windom Eagle baseball team rallied over the final three innings Saturday, earning a walk-off 3-2 victory over New London-Spicer in the Section 3A Tournament at Marshall.

Windom trailed 1-0 when NLS scored a run in the top of the third, but the Eagles tied the game in the fifth. Jackson Joyce reached on a fielder’s choice, stole second, moved up on a Tucker Renquist single and scored on a single from Quintin Tietz.

The Eagles took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth. Adam Perrizo drew a leadoff walk, Drew Rothenberger was hit by a pitch and Hayden Tietz put down a sacrifice bunt. With one out, Stevie Meyer lifted a sacrifice fly to deep center field, giving the Eagles the lead.

NLS rallied to tie the game in the top of the seventh. The Wildcats loaded the bases on a walk, a hit batter and an error, then scored on a hit batter with the bases loaded before a strikeout ended the threat.

In the bottom of the seventh, Matthew Voehl led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Quintin Tietz hit a dribbler down the first base line that was mishandled by the NLS pitcher and first baseman. Tietz dove safely into first while Voehl raced home from second base with the winning run.

Quintin Tietz picked up the pitching win, working one-third of an inning in relief.
