AMATEUR BASEBALL: Pirates top Wabasso

Wabasso 000 000 001 = 1-4-7
Windom 100 000 03x = 4-2-1

The Windom Pirates took advantage of Wabasso’s defensive miscues Wednesday night, pulling away late for a 4-1 victory over the Jaxx at Island Park.

The Pirate offense managed just two hits in the game, but made the Jaxx pay for seven errors, leading to four runs.

Windom got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Conner Redman and Josh Garrison were hit by pitches to start the game. After a fielder’s choice put runners on the corners, Redman scored on an errant pickoff attempt.

The score stayed 1-0 until the bottom of the eighth, when the Pirates put things out of reach. David Volk hit an RBI double and two runs scored when Redman reached on an error.

Wabasso scored its only run of the game in the top of the ninth before a strikeout ended the game.

Volk and Noah Kloss had the lone hits for the Pirates.

Luke Gilbertson worked six solid innings for the win, allowing two hits and striking out seven. Ross Ackerman earned a three-inning save, allowing two hits and striking out six.
