SECTION BASEBALL: Two-out runs lift Eagles past Arrows

Pipestone 300 000 = 3-10-4
Windom 008 401 = 13-9-2

The Windom Eagle baseball team did a ton of two-out damage Tuesday afternoon, rallying for a 13-3 victory over Pipestone in the Section 3AA playoffs at Island Park.

The Arrows got off to the fast start, scoring three times in the top of the first and chasing Eagle starting pitcher Jackson Joyce after one inning of work.

But the Eagles rallied in the bottom of the third. After the first two batters of the inning were retired, the Eagles’ next 11 hitters reached base, as Windom plated eight runs to take control of the game. Drew Rothenberger hit an RBI single, Matthew Voehl added a two-run single, Joyce had an RBI single, Quintin Tietz drew a bases-loaded walk and Adam Perrizo hit a two-run single.

Then, in the fourth, the Eagles again mounted a two-out rally. Tucker Renquist hit an RBI single and Tietz had a two-run single.

The final Eagle run scored when Joyce raced home from second on a deep sacrifice fly from Tietz in the bottom of the sixth, ending the game via the 10-run rule.

Rothenberger, Voehl and Joyce had two hits each in the win.

Rothenberger worked five innings of shutout relief for the pitching win, allowing six hits and striking out 12.
