City takes away unsightly roof duct with $8,200 project

The Windom City Council recently approved the spending of $8,232 to remove what was described as an “unsightly” piece of tin as a duct was removed from an electric department roof.

Electric superintendent Jason Sykora said the idea came up in discussion while roof work was being done anyway.

“So we thought it would be a good time to remove that big, ugly square rectangle looking exhaust from the turbine, which we retired a few years ago. So, Laraway Roofing agreed, and came up with a contract price when they had their crane there, that they’ll lift it down and they’ll patch the holes for the legs that support it.”

Council member Scott Benson asked if the metal can be scrapped for a few dollars and Sykora said the city will likely haul it to Hilltop Recycling and see what the metal brings.
