BASEBALL: Wolverines win finale

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey surged in the late innings Friday, pulling away for an 8-4 victory over Cleveland at Mt. Lake.

The Wolverines plated three runs in each of their final two trips to the plate to seal the win.

MLAC scored in the first on a Jake Evers RBI single. MLAC added a run on a bases-loaded walk in the second.

Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth, the Wolverines took the lead for good, scoring on a pair of wild pitches and a Khalid Fontanez RBI single.

In the sixth, Evers and Fontanez hit RBI singles to help seal the win.

Evers finished with three hits. Tanner Schultz and Fontanez had two hits each.

Aidan Olson went 6-⅔ innings to pick up the win, allowing 10 hits and one walk while fanning seven.

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove saw an early lead slip away Friday, as Tracy-Milroy-Balaton rallied for a 9-4 win at Lamberton.

The Falcons scored early on an Isaac Simonson fielder’s choice in the first inning. Jackson Jenniges added a sacrifice fly in the second.

In the third, Simonson hit a sacrifice fly and Quintyn Vold plated a run with a squeeze bunt, giving the Falcons a 4-0 lead.

But TMB battled back, scoring once in the fourth and three times in the fifth to tie the game. The Panthers then plated five runs in the sixth inning, taking the lead for good.

Hudsen Jenniges had two hits in the loss for the Falcons. He also took the pitching loss, working five-plus innings.
