BASEBALL: Eagles sink Trojans

The Windom Eagle baseball team closed out the home portion of the regular season schedule and avenged an earlier loss Thursday, topping Worthington 9-4 at Island Park.

The Eagles scored in each of their six trips to the plate in the game.

Windom got on the scoreboard with RBI singles from Hayden Tietz and Hunter Palm and a Stevie Meyer RBI double in the first, then plated a run on an error in the second.

Palm added an RBI single in the third, with Quintin Tietz hitting an RBI double in the fourth.

In the fifth, Palm hit an RBI single and scored on a Matthew Voehl RBI double. The final Eagle run scored on an error in the sixth.

Hayden Tietz and Palm had three hits each, while Meyer added two hits.

Jackson Joyce picked up the pitching win, working six strong innings. He allowed four hits, walked four and struck out four.

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey rallied late in the nightcap of a doubleheader Thursday, salvaging a split against Adrian-Ellsworth at Adrian.

The Dragons walked off with a 4-3 win in the opener, before the Wolverines rallied in the nightcap for a 9-6 win.

In the opener, the Dragons scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. MLAC answered in the top of the second, scoring on RBI singles from Tanner Schultz and Landon Simon.

The Wolverines tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth on a Schultz RBI single. But in the seventh, the Dragons got a two-out single to plate the winning run.

Schultz and Simon each had two hits in the loss. Schultz also took the pitching loss, working the final two-thirds of an inning in relief.

In the nightcap, the Wolverines tied teh game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first on a Sam Pidde RBI single.

MLAC took a 3-1 lead in the second, as Schultz hit an RBI single and Simon plated a run with a sacrifice fly.

The Dragons battled back, taking a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning. That’s when the Wolverines broke the game open, plating six runs. Kaleb Nowak, Simon and Pidde hit RBI singles and Grant Regier hit a two-run double.

Schultz, Simon and Pidde each had three hits in the win.

Jake Evers picked up the pitching win, working the first six innings. He allowed six hits, walked two and struck out three.

Springfield scored in each of its trips to the plate Thursday afternoon, rolling to an 11-0 victory over Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove in Lamberton.

The Tigers built a 4-0 lead through three innings, then doubled the lead with a four-run fourth. After a run in the fifth, the Tigers put the game away with a three-run sixth inning.

Springfield held the Falcons to just two hits in the game.

Isaac Simonson took the pitching loss, working one inning. He allowed a run on a hit, walked two and struck out one.
