TUESDAY TRACK: Eagle boys set school record at Trojan Relays

Trojan Relays

Windom and Westbrook-Walnut Grove/Red Rock Central each took part in the Trojan Relays, held Tuesday in Worthington.

In the Class AA competition, Windom’s boys and girls each finished sixth. Meanwhile, in Class A, WWG/RRC’s girls were third and the boys were sixth.

Windom’s boys finished with 73 points. Fairmont won the AA boys competition with 146½. The Eagle girls scored 47 points. Marshall won the AA team title with 143.

In Class A, WWG/RRC’s girls finished with 106-1/3 points. Hills-Beaver Creek won the meet with 147. The Charger boys had 44 points. Southwest Christian/Edgerton won the meet with 168.

The highlight of the day for the Eagle boys came in the last race of the day. Windom finished second in the 4×400 relay, but the team of Job Ogeka, Charlie Smith, Aaden Nauman and Kevin Bleess shattered a 54-year-old school record with a time of 3:29.89. The previous record of 3:31.90 was set in 1970 by Joe Miller, Steve Hartberg, Dave Smith and Ed Deutschman.

Ogeka added a first-place finish in the triple jump, leaping 43-9¼. Bleess won the long jump (19-11), with Thomas Green third (18-7¼). Nauman was third in the 3,200 (9:50.80).

The Eagle girls were paced by a runner-up jump of 9-6 in the pole vault from Victoria Robillard. Kaylee Walklin placed third in the 1,600 (5:26.07), while Theora Ahnupkana had a career-best toss of 93-4 to place third in the discus.

WWG/RRC’s girls were led by Abby Wiggins, who won the Class A pole vault (7-6). Evelyn Rentschler and Rebecca Meiner tied for third (6-0). Ally Linder was second in the shot put (31-2). Anna Byers was third in the 100 hurdles (18.39) and Miranda Mischke took third in the 800 (2:44.98).

The Charger boys were led by Blake Paplow, who placed third in the shot put (38-9), and Chris Xiong, who was third in the long jump (17-6½).

Valley Conference Meet

Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin’s girls and boys each placed fifth in the Valley Conference Meet, held Tuesday at Lake Crystal.

The MCWBO girls scored 36 points. Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial-Nicollet won the meet with 148.

The Maverick boys scored 45 points. LCWMN won the meet with 131.

The MCWBO girls were led by Ryelynn Forsberg, who placed second in the discus (92-10). Ava Thate placed third in the 100 dash (13.83) and high jump (4-6). Mylee Larson was third in the shot put (29-4).

For the boys, Ryan Pierson finished first in the 3,200 (9:58.42). Berent Kosbab was second in both the 100 (11.47) and 200 (23.45). Grant Koehnen was second in the 1,600 (4:49.87). The team of Irbin Barrios, Talon Kettner, Carlos Rodriguez and Kosbab added a win in the 4×200 relay (1:37.35).
