TUESDAY BASEBALL: Eagles rally past Mavericks

The Windom Eagles played from behind early, but used a seven-run third inning to take control, claiming a 12-5 win over Martin County West Tuesday at Island Park.

Trailing 2-0 in the first, the Eagles scored on a Drew Rothenberger RBI triple, a Hayden Tietz RBI single and a wild pitch.

MCW regained the lead with two runs in the top of the third, but the Eagles answered in the bottom of the inning. Stevie Meyer and Hunter Palm hit back-to-back RBI singles. Tucker Renquist drew a bases-loaded walk and Quintin Tietz added an RBI single. The Eagles then scored two runs on an errant throw and got another on a passed ball.

Rothenberger plated a run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth and the Eagles scored on an error in the sixth.

Palm led the Eagles with three hits in the win. Quintin Tietz and Rothenberger had two hits each.

Palm went the distance for the pitching win, allowing 11 hits and one walk while striking out three.

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove played a unique doubleheader Tuesday night and came away with a sweep, defeating Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey 11-1 in Lamberton, then winning 8-0 at Wabasso.

In the day’s opening game, MLAC got on the board in the top of the first. Sam Pidde reached on a double and scored on an error.

The Falcons responded with 11 unanswered runs, scoring in the first on a Tyler Therkilsen RBI single and a Quintyn Vold RBI double.

The Falcons then broke free in the second with five runs, highlighted with RBI singles from Isaac Simonson and Austin Imker. Imker added an RBI single in the fourth.

In the fifth, the Falcons closed out the game. Hudsen Jenniges hit a two-run double and scored on a balk to end the game.

Jake Jackson led RRC/WWG with three hits. Jenniges, Vold and Imker had two hits each.

Imker went the distance in the win, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out two.

Landon Simon took the loss for the Wolverines, allowing 12 hits and two walks while striking out five.

In the nightcap, the Falcons jumped to a commanding lead early. In the first, Therkilsen hit an RBI single and Vold added a two-run double.

In the second, Therkilsen hit an RBI double, Jenniges plated a run with a groundout and Simonson added an RBI single.

Simonson added an RBI double in the fourth and Corey Arkell had an RBI single in the seventh.

Therkilsen had three hits in the win for the Falcons. Simonson and Arkell had two hits each.

Jenniges picked up the pitching win, working three no-hit innings. He walked one and struck out six.
