BASEBALL: Eagles roll past Huskies

The Windom Eagle baseball team jumped out to an early lead and maintained it throughout Friday afternoon, claiming an 11-6 victory over Jackson County Central at Jackson.

The Eagles jumped out to a lead in the top of the first, scoring two runs on a JCC error.

The Eagles pushed the lead to 4-1 in the top of the second on a Quintin Tietz RBI double and an Adam Perrizo RBI single.

Leading 4-2 in the fifth, the Eagles scored on a Perrizo groundout. Windom then broke the game open in the sixth, sending 10 hitters to the plate and scoring four runs on two bases-loaded walks, an error and a fielder’s choice.

The final Eagle runs scored on a Jackson Joyce RBI single and a passed ball in the seventh.

Hayden Tietz and Stevie Meyer had two hits each in the win.

Drew Rothenberger worked the first six innings to earn the pitching win. He did not allow a hit, walked four and struck out 10.

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey fell in two different fashions Saturday, dropping both halves of a doubleheaders against Russell-Tyler-Ruthton in Ruthton.

The Wolverines fell in a pitcher’s duel in the opener, taking a 3-1 loss. Then, RTR rallied to win a 21-11 slugfest in the nightcap.

In the opener, RTR did all its damage in the third inning with three runs.

The Wolverines broke the shutout in the top of the seventh. Sam Pidde led off with a triple and scored on a Jake Evers groundout.

Tanner Schultz and Landon Simon had two hits each in the loss.

Tyler Dick took the complete-game pitching loss, allowing eight hits and striking out nine.

In the nightcap, the Wolverines held the lead much of the way. After giving up four runs in the top of the first, MLAC answered with a six-run bottom of the first. Quin Vidana had an RBi single and Schultz hit an RBI double.

Down 7-6 in the bottom of the third, the Wolverines battled back with three runs. Pidde hit an RBI single and Dick and Cooper Wenner drew bases-loaded walks.

MLAC added a run in the fourth on a wild pitch, going up 10-7, but RTR stormed into the lead with a six-run sixth and eight more runs in the seventh.

Pidde and Vidana each had two hits in the loss.

Aidan Olson took the pitching loss, working three innings in relief.

Mankato Loyola used a big fourth inning to take the lead for good Friday, leading to a 7-5 victory over Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey in Mt. Lake.

MLAC led 2-1 going into the fourth, but Loyola plated five runs to take command of the game.

The Wolverines scored on a Jake Evers RBI double in the first and a bases-loaded walk to Tyler Dick in the second.

Down 6-2 in the bottom of the fourth, the Wolverines closed the gap as Dick hit an RBI double and Evers hit an RBI triple.

Grant Regier added an RBI single in the fifth, but the Wolverines were unable to get another baserunner the rest of the way.

Evers led the Wolverines with two hits. He also took the pitching loss, working the first four innings.
